Most Rutherford's believe there is only one location called Rutherford (it is in Roxburgh, Scotland) that the Rutherford's originate from.

This is not the case - there are number of locations that could have given rise to a 'Rutherford' family.

 

I have come across 3 locations in Scotland, 1 location in England and 1 location in Flanders.

 

These locations have been in existence at different time periods and with different versions of spelling.
